100% THE PROOF is a debut album for a band which includes some very seasoned performers who already have a back catalogue of fine songs. Certainly, a new album with the high calibre, soulful vocals of Paul Cox is likely to be worth listening to, and he brings guests Mickey Moody, Snowy White, and Charlie Fabert on board here. So how good is 100% THE PROOF? Some tracks really get under the skin in a good way – a beautiful interpretation of Steve Winwood’s Can’t Find My Way Home for one. Are You Made Of Gold pulls off the strange trick of being pacy, mellow and exciting all at once.

The album gets better as it goes along, notably from the fourth track, the slow Cold Cold Feeling, which is as beautifully chilled as the title suggests. The closing track, Some Kinda Wonderful, brings a fine finish to the album and shows that the band doesn’t need any guests to Rock. In fact, with strong lead guitar from Mike Summerland and at times imposing keys from Roger Cotton, the conclusion is that this is a quality album and for the next one there is no need to open up that guestbook.  Though the contributions from the guests are classy and – having seen him play with the band live – Micky Moody plays some stunning stuff.
